"We've had 15 today including a 3.1 (magnitude) from this morning," Scott Ausbrooks, geohazards supervisor for the Geological Survey, said Monday. "These are shallow quakes between two and eight kilometers (between one-and-a-quarter and five miles) below the surface."
While earthquakes aren't unusual in the Southeast state, the frequency is.

A magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck the Gulf of California, sending shockwaves that were felt more than 680 miles away in San Diego. There were no immediate reports of injury.

A magnitude-6.3 earthquake struck Monday near Japan's southwestern Ryuku Islands, touching off a tsunami warning.
The United States Geological Survey said the quake was centred about 115 kilometres east of Ishigaki-jima in the Ryukyu Islands, or about 320 kilometres southwest of Naha, Okinawa.
Reuters reported that Japanese television stations were warning of a possible 50-centimetre tsunami.
The quake's depth was about 35.9 kilometres, the USGS said.

BREAKING NEWS: A massive 7.4 magnitude earthquake has hit Christchurch and the wider South Island, causing widespread damage, two serious injuries and power cuts to most of the city.
The quake was centred 30km west of Christchurch and 33km underground. It hit at 4.35am and there have been many reports of damage, including buildings being flattened and a road being ripped up.
About 10,000 people have fled their homes in western Indonesia, where a volcano has erupted for the first time in 400 years.
The eruption started Saturday night on Mount Sinabung in North Sumatra province. Smoke and ash shot into the air, and lava could be seen pouring down the mountain.
One man says he ran for his life when he saw the lava coming towards him.
Local officials say there's no major damage and the eruption appears to have stopped.
The government distributed 7,000 masks to refugees and set up public kitchens so people can cook food, said Priyadi Kardono, spokesman for the National Disaster Management Agency.
Mount Sinabung is part of the Pacific ocean's "Ring of Fire," which has more than 100 active volcanoes.
New Delhi, India (CNN) -- A 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of India early Sunday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
A local tsunami watch for India was issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, but was later canceled.

A swarm of small earthquakes continued to occur overnight in the Big Bear Lake area.
More than a dozen quakes were recorded in the last 12 hours in the San Bernardino Mountains region, most of them small. No damage or injuries were reported.
Another swarm of small quakes hit the Santa Monica Bay on Monday, including a 3.6 and 3.7 temblor. Those quakes were felt by thousands of people, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The Big Bear quake swarm produced smaller quakes. The first quake hit about 1:30 p.m. Monday a few miles north of Big Bear City. That registered magnitude 3.2. The second quake hit about 10 minutes later, and registered 3.1.
Hundreds of people reported feeling those quakes.
The latest recorded quake in in the Santa Monica Bay was Monday night, registering 1.9. More than 3,500 people told the USGS they felt the Monday afternoon 3.7 temblor.
