California Earthquake ShakeOut - Don't Freak Out!

This IReporter traveled to the most dangerous fault in California, The San Andreas, and to The San Bernardino County Museum in Redlands to file this report for CNN on the 2nd Annual Great California Shake Out.

Watch the video as Mr Mealey takes viewers thorough the fault zone as it crosses the 15 Freeway in the Cajon Pass, the location is about 35 miles from his home. He also takes us to one of the most dangerous freeway interchanges in California, the 215 / 10 Interchange near Redlands. The San Jacinto Fault, a offshoot of the San Andreas, lies right under this overpass.

The report concludes at the location that will be hosting one of the main events, The San Bernardino County Museum. Hundreds of school children, emergency responders, geologists, politicians, and the public will gather to conduct one of the largest earthquake drills ever practiced. Read the whole article:

Earthquake Magnitude: 6

1) Mag: 6 16/10/2010 13:27:46 (UTC)

2) 4 quakes recorded in Faulkner County, Ark., Friday
According to a list of earthquakes on the USGS web site, the earliest quake recorded Friday was one of magnitude 3.8 at 5:20 a.m., about two miles south of Guy. Next came a magnitude 2.4 quake at 7:19 a.m., about 3 miles south of Guy. That was followed by a magnitude 3.0 quake at 1:40 p.m., three miles northeast of Greenbrier, and a quake of magnitude 2.0 at 4:02 p.m., two miles south of Guy.

Researchers say quakes of 2.5 to 3.0 magnitude are typically the smallest felt by humans.

A number of small earthquakes in the area have been reported for months, and geologists have installed sensors to better understand why the quakes are occurring.
